Thinker and Observer
In meditation one part of our mind observes the other. There is a "thinker" in us who generates thousands and thousands of unconscious thoughts every day - but there is also an "observer". The "thinker" creates all your suffering. The observer doesn't even know what suffering is. The observer (or the "witness") is already awakened, enlightened and free from all suffering - and you can find and develop this part in yourself by practising concentration on your breath.
