How can we observe our thoughts in meditation with lovingkindness? We can do that by focusing our attention for a very brief moment on that thought before getting back to our breath immediately afterwards. The thought requires our attention, if we try to avoid or to block it somehow the thought will come back and will probably also grow stronger. Therefore it is necessary to observe the thought with our full attention for a short moment before getting back to our breath and leaving the thought as it is.
